The 49ers continue their free agency splash by signing former Giants WR Mario Manningham to a 2-year deal with undisclosed terms. Manningham has 160 career receptions for 2,315 yards and 18 TDs, he will likely play opposite Randy Moss.
The Niners have positioned themselves to be just fine even if they don’t sign Manning this Monday or Tuesday, they have a receiving core that includes Moss, Manningham, Crabtree and Kyle Williams, 3 solid guys, a young backup, and a TE in Vernon Davis who is just as dangerous. Suddenly this offense looks like it can handle its own weight, they won’t have to depend as heavily on the defense this time around and with an improving Alex Smith (again, if they don’t get Manning), they will be alright when it’s all said and done. I think the Niners have to be your favorites heading into the year, now add some rookies to fill in some of the smaller gaps and add some depth, and you’re good to go.
