The San Francisco 49ers have officially brought WR Randy Moss out of retirement, the club signed the formerly retired veteran to a one-year deal Monday night, just a few hours before the opening of Free Agency. The move gives San Francisco a legitimate receiver in an offense that was ranked 29th in the league, and a red zone offense that at one point late in the season was the WORST in the league. Alex Smith has been shaky at best on the deep ball (and by shaky I mean inaccurate), so we’ll see just how far Randy can stretch the field for him.
With Alex Smith’s situation still in limbo Jim Harbaugh participated as the quarterback in Moss’s workouts, and as long as Randy realizes that it’s not permanent, I think they’ll be okay.
Still a very strong move by the Niners with little to no cost, Randy gets to play for a contender, and Alex Smith gets a legitimate deep threat who’s not going to be either suspended or hurt.
